Mitchell Keyzer, age 89, of McHenry, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at his home.
He was born December 19, 1922 in Park Ridge to John and Lydia Adrianna (Van Digglen) Keyzer. On January 30, 1946 he married Jeanette Havenga in Des Plaines.
Mitch was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII with the rank of Corporal. He was a quartermaster serving in India for 3 years.
He had been a longtime resident of Park Ridge and Wheeling before moving to Wonder Lake in 1978 and then to McHenry in 2004. He was employed as a clerk for the U.S. Post Office at the Park Ridge station for 30 years.
Mitch had a love for life. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and golfing. He was a founder and charter member of Fox Valley Christian Reform Church first meeting in 1981 and laying the cornerstone in 1986.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jeanette; two sons, John (Marcia) Keyzer of West Chicago, Jim Keyzer of Woodstock; six grandchildren, John (Michelle) Keyzer Jr., Kevin (Mary) Keyzer, Kristeen Keyzer, Katie (Charlie) Prikett, Kari (Carlton) Cook, Tom (Regan) Keyzer; eight great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Jessica, Madison, Taryn, Matthew, Erin, Joshua, Alexis; a brother, John (the late Marianne) Keyzer; and a sister, Marge (the late Henry) Swierenga.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Johanna Miedema.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, February 23, at the Fox Valley Christian Reform Church, 9414 Route 176, Crystal Lake, Il 60014.
The funeral service will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, at the Church. Pastor Dan Gregory will officiate.
Interment will be in Town of Maine Cemetery, Park Ridge.
