Harold (Harry) Bendt, age 90, of Lakemoor, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. He was born on March 21, 1931, in Walga, Estonia.
When the Russians invaded Estonia during World War II, Harry and his family fled to Germany. During time spent in Germany, he worked for the USA and then was relocated to America.
Harry served in the United States Army as a sergeant in the 1950’s and 1960’s. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal for his service in the Armed Forces of the USA.
After his military service, Harry then became a Master Plumber and was a member of the Plumbers Local Union 130 UA for 59 years.
Harry traveled the world for years and throughout America with his loving wife, Nancy. Harry and Nancy shared a wonderful life together and observed over 50 years of marriage.
You would frequently find Harry outdoors fixing things or playing with his dogs. He loved all animals, but dogs held a special place in his heart; he had several through the years.
Harry is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, daughter Debra (John) Graber, as well as many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other cherished loved ones and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, siblings, other relatives, and many close friends.
Memorial service and military burial will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL, at a later date.
