Nicholas J. “Nick” Wirth, Sr., age 63, of McHenry, died Friday, March 28, 2014 at his home.
He was born November 2, 1950 in Chicago to John and Antonina (Radosta) Wirth. On February 3, 1973, he married Linda D. Castre at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Franklin Park.
A veteran of the U. S. Air Force, he served as a K-9 handler for the military police, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 4600 in McHenry.
He was employed as a carpenter for over 35 years.
During his leisure time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and tinkering around in his garage. Hel also loved to be outside in the summertime.. He was a dog lover, and his most recent canine companion was his beloved dog Hara. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, his family was always his focus in life.
Survivors include three children, Nicky (Nikki) Wirth of McHenry, Frankie (Jessica Mann) Wirth of Cary, and Lara (Joe) Gutierrez of Glendale Heights; five grandchildren, Kayla, Ella, Shaeley, Melaney and Joey; a brother, Joe (Carol) Wirth of Ingleside; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda, on November 14, 2013; and a sister, Sandy Maratea.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
Visitation will resume on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park, Northlake.
