Nicole became part of my life in April of 1996 when her father and I were married and I had the joy of watching her grow into the very special woman she became. We have so many wonderful memories of the many special times we shared with her, starting with bringing her and her sister Lauren on our honeymoon in Jamaica. Then there were trips to the Wisconsin Dells, to the Dominican Republic, white water rafting in Tennessee and New Mexico. She loved watching Bears’ football games with her father and always treasured the jersey Brian Urlacher signed and dedicated to her. She also loved music and dancing and, of course, her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

My first daughter, Nicole, was born on August 12, 1983. On that day, I had been up for more than 30 straight hours but I was so emotionally excited that when I got home I wrote a song, expressing what I was feeling. Although I have no musical skills, I wrote down the lyrics and kept the melody in my head. A few years ago, Val’s cousin, Paul Sundquist, recorded “Nicki’s song” as a way of joining me in wishing her a happy birthday. Everyone who knew Nicole knew how special she was. Throughout her life, she was always sweet, loving and caring, and she’ll be missed so very much. I have no words to adequately express the sorrow we’ve been feeling since the incident on Saturday, but here’s a link to the YouTube video:

I will always remember Nicole as such a kind and nice person that was always so pleasant to talk to and just so easy to get along with. I especially loved talking to her about sports because she was always up to date on the latest news. She had such a good heart and will really be missed.
