Richard A. Gabala, age 55, of Wonder Lake, died Thursday, November 26, 2009, at Centegra Hospital in McHenry.
He was born July 18, 1954 in Northbrook to Richard and Catherine (Burke) Welch. He married Carilyn P. Hoff on Sept. 25, 1982 at St. Monica Church in Carpentersville.
Formerly of East Dundee, he lived in Wonder Lake for the past 24 years. He was a truck driver, and worked for the Wheeling Transportation Co., driving for Chicago Metallics and the Michael Lewis Company.
A family man, he was an avid supporter and fan for his son’s football games. He enjoyed showing French Bull Dogs in AKC dog shows, gardening, and doing home repairs. He umpired Wonder Lake baseball for many years. He was eagerly anticipating the birth of his first grandchild in the next few days.
He is survived by his wife, Carilyn, three children, Adam Gabala of Woodstock, Lindsey Gabala of Wonder Lake, and Kody Gabala of Woodstock; his mother, Catherine Fischer of Hoffman Estates; a sister, Jackie (Thomas) Bucalo of Hoffman Estates; and a brother, David (Julie) Gabala of Spring Grove.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry.
Inurnment will be private.
