Richard S. Anderson is the youngest son of John W. and Gertrude (Hewey) Anderson. Born June 6, 1925 in Milwaukee, WI. Schooled at Galesburg High School. He joined the U.S. Marines and had basic training in Southern California, including long Forced Marches. He was a Corporal Scout Sniper, with Automatic Rifleman. He was one of two survivors out of 240 to make it back from the first assault on Betio-Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands. After discharge, he settled in Chicago, IL. He was a master stair builder for Cooper Stair Co. and installed stairs in some of the State Capitals and Governors Mansions. He also served on the Village Board of Prairie Grove, IL. He married Florence Nemec on February 1, 1948. Richard passed away on April 2, 2018. He is survived by his wife and niece, Karen Terhune. There were no formal services or visitation.
