Robert E. Anderson, age 84, of Lakemoor, died Sunday, August 18, 2013, at his home. He was born December 22, 1928 in Kingsford, MI to Ernest and Ingeborg (Fernstrom) Anderson.
Raised in Kingsford, he graduated from high school in nearby Iron Mountain, MI before moving to Chicago as a young man. After a short time in Chicago, he was drafted and entered the United States Air Force in 1951. He served as a mess sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1955.
Following discharge, he began his career as a tool and die maker for Littelfuse in Des Plaines. Later he worked at Handy Button Machine Co. as a product engineer in Chicago and later Melrose Park. There he met his wife, Edith, and they married on May 17, 1980 at the United Methodist Church in Roselle. They jointly retired from Handy Button on April 8, 1994.
An avid golfer, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as water skiing and snow skiing in his younger years. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, having visited all states in the continental U.S., as well as several countries in Europe. He loved to socialize, and one of his favorite pastimes was having lunch out with his wife at least 5 days of the week. He will be fondly remembered as the life of the party.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Edith; three sons, Gary Anderson, Mark (Heidi) Anderson, and Scott (Lynn) Anderson, and their mother, Marion Anderson, all of North Carolina; three step-children, Rosie (Robert) Ciardullo of Arizona, Richard (Sandy) Kuchnia of Twin Lakes, and Ronald (Elizabeth) Kuchnia of Lakemoor; ten grandchildren, Caleb, Tiffany, Holly, Mark (Allison), Renée (Scott), Ryan, Morgan (Andy), Adam, Kevin, and Kurtis; three great-grandchildren, Kaley, Jake, and Elliana; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ernest; and a sister, Carol.
Friends may visit with his family from 6 p.m. until the funeral service at 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The cremation rite will be accorded privately.
