Roman F. “Ray” Stygar, age 91, of Crystal Lake and formerly of Wonder Lake, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at The Fountains in Crystal Lake.
He was born July 28, 1922 in Chicago to John and Sophia Stygar. From 1942 until 1946, Ray served in the U. S. Coast Guard. On October 8, 1949, he married Rita Marie Faucher. Following their marriage, Ray and Rita lived in Chicago until 1958 until moving to San Diego, where they lived for 31 years. Before becoming residents of Crystal Lake in 2007, they also lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Roman was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a recipient of a Purple Heart.
Prior to retirement, Ray worked as a machinist for 31 years at General Dynamics and for 7 ½ years at Ford. He was a member and a former Grand Knight with the Wonder Lake Christ The King Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Ed (Nancy) Stygar of Wonder Lake, Richard (the late Renee) Stygar of Albuquerque, Jimmy Wiemeyer of Rockford, Tim Styger of New Mexico, Thomas (Jean) Zolik of Minneapolis, George Wiemeyer of Chicago, David Michellotto of Atlanta and Anthony Michellotto of Johnsburg, Margaret and Joanna Weimeyer; great-nephews, Thomas (Rose) Stygar of Wonder Lake, Edward III (Sheila) Stygar of Palatine, Randall (Michelle) Stygar of Sandia Park, New Mexico, Anthony Stygar of Albuquerque, Richard Stygar, Timothy (Janet) Stygar; great nieces, Barbara (David) Doak of San Jose, CA, Joanne Rordeau and Michelle (Bill) Mandich; and a sister-in-law, Susan (Leo) Michellotto of Tempe, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rita on November 11, 2008; four sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Justen’s Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 W. Hancock Drive, Wonder Lake, IL 60097.
The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Christ the King Church, 5006 E. Wonder lake Road, Wonder Lake, IL 60097.
Interment will be in Christ the King Cemetery, Wonder Lake.
