He was born March 4, 1938 in Chicago to Elmer and Louise (Weber) Mauer. Raised in Chicago during his early years, Ron moved to the Crystal Lake area, where he was raised and educated. Ron met his future wife, Eileen Knox, in McHenry. While making their marriage plans, Ron’s future father-in-law suggested their wedding be held at New Melleray Monastery in Dubuque, Iowa, where Eileen’s brother had moved and would later take his vows to become a monk. Ron and Eileen married there on July 6, 1959.
Ron enjoyed a sales career spanning more than 30 years. He was employed by Sanfilippo & Son, known for the Fisher Nut brand, for 20 years. He also worked for American Bottling Co. (7-Up) and Frito Lay Co.
Ron was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in McHenry. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed bowling. Ron was very involved with his children’s activities as they grew up, coaching and attending every Little League game and Pigtail event of his children. When his children were grown, his attention shifted to being present for all of his grandchildren’s many school and sporting events.
