Rosina Katzenberger, age 81, of Wonder Lake, entered eternal rest on October 1, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 25, 1937 to Joseph and Barbara (Hodap) Herzog in Radikovci, Croatia. After becoming a refugee, she grew up and went to school in St. Nikolai, Austria. Rosina immigrated to the United States In 1956. She came to the United States by way of the Port of New York and settled near the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago.
On July 6, 1957, she was united in marriage to Jakob Katzenberger at St. Alphonsus Church in Chicago.
Rosina was of Donau Schwaben German heritage. A resident of Wonder Lake since 1968, Rosina was a devout Catholic and active member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was a member of the Ladies’ Sodality of Christ the King Parish, Head Organizer for Christ the King’s Oktoberfest, and sang in the church’s choir. Outside of church, Rosina was a member of the German American Club of Antioch and the American Aid Society of German Descendants. Rosina will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished raising her children and created a loving home, filled with delicious food, pastries, beautiful gardens, warmth and generosity.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 61 years, Jakob; her children, Stephen (Lisa) Katzenberger and Debra Groeschl (Gregory) ; six grandchildren, Justin Emert, Travis, Kaleb, and Reece Katzenberger, Barbara and Eva Groeschl; a brother, George (Hannelore) Herzog; and a sister, Theresia Leprich.
Rosina was preceded in death by her parents and brother Joseph Herzog, sister Helen Wendling, and sister Katharina Manzella.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 5, 2018, from 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Rd., McHenry, IL 60050. Visitation will resume the following morning at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5006 E Wonder Lake Rd, Wonder Lake, IL 60097 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass. Interment will be at Christ the King Catholic Cemetery.
