Ruth A. Christensen, age 69, of Crystal Lake, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Crystal Pines Health Care Center in Crystal Lake, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born February 9, 1945 in Boscobel, Wisconsin to Richard and Doris (Steinis) Campbell.
Ruth graduated in 1963 from Harlem High School, Loves Park. After her marriage, she became a full time homemaker. She was very involved in raising her sons and had a passion for gardening. Once her sons were grown, she attended Harper College in Palatine for Interior Design. Later she was an office manager for various local dental groups. She passed her time knitting for family and friends.
Survivors include three sons, Patrick (Elizabeth) Kurpius of Frederick, MD, Michael Kurpius of Algonquin, and Timothy (Angelica) Kurpius of Loves Park; five grandchildren, Brian, Christopher, Ashley, Danielle, and Emma; her mother, Doris Campbell of Machesney Park, and two sisters, Dianna Campbell of Machesney Park and Patricia (Mark) Geach of Punta Gorda, FL. Also survived by father of her children, Ronald Kurpius of Tubac, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Campbell August 18, 1980; and her husband, Bruce N. Alexander on May 14, 2011.
A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. A time for reflection and sharing of memories will take place at 4pm.
