Sherman B. Spencer, age 88, of Wonder Lake, died Saturday, September 23, at Lexington Healthcare Center in Wheeling.
He was born May 27, 1918 in White Mills, Kentucky to Samuel and Nellie (Henderson) Spencer. On Dec. 2, 1939 he married Mary Louise Sowers in Garrett, Illinois with his father officiated the wedding.
Formerly of Ringwood Sherman had been a resident of Wonder Lake since 1972.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Airforce serving in World War II. Sherman was an electrician with I.B.E.W. Local 117 in Elgin, retiring in 1982.
He was an avid snowmobiler, a Cub fan, and loved Nascar racing. His favorite Nascar driver was Dale Jarrett.
Survivors include four children, Leonard (Cherie) Spencer of Wonder Lake, Donna (Michael) Pucci of Mt. Prospect, Alan (Kathy) Spencer of Wonder Lake, Cynthia (George) Leck of Twin Lakes, Wisc.; eleven grandchildren, Carmen, Laura, Mark, Jeff, Cliff, Larry, Jenny, Andy, Becky, Mandy, Felicia; 16 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two brothers, Wilbur (the late Gerry) Spencer of Garrett, Jim (Donna) Spencer of West Point; a sister, Bernice (John) Romine of Tuscola; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; two grandsons, Jeff and Cliff Spencer; two brothers, Wendell and Cullen Spencer; and two sisters, Mary Ann and Shirley.
The visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2006 at Justen’s Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 Hancock Drive, Wonder Lake, IL 60097. The Rev. Roger Olson officiating.
Inurnment in Ringwood Cemetery, Ringwood, IL.
