Shirley Jean Patnou, age 57, of Round Lake Park, died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born June 2, 1956 in Chicago to Freddie and Edith (Johnson) Mullins. Shirley was raised by Edith and Anthony Foderaro. On November 7, 1981, she married Steven W. Patnou at St. Bartholomew Church in Chicago.
Formerly of Chicago, Shirley was a resident of Round Lake Park since 1989. She was employed for over 25 years by ETA hand2mind in Vernon Hills, where she was IT Manager.
Very community-minded, Shirley volunteered countless hours for the Round Lake Area Park District. She was one of the founding parents for Spartans football, and had served as president of the organization. She was active in the Round Lake High School Booster Club, and had also been active with the Round Lake Beach Emergency Management Agency, known in the community as Mobile Eye.
She enjoyed scrapbooking, ceramics, crocheting and gardening. A loving wife and mother, she was very dedicated to her children, as well as other area children for whom she took on the role of adopted mother. Always full of energy, she was hardworking and unselfish, and will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Steven; four children, Michael O. Murdock of Round Lake, Matthew Steven (Karen) Patnou of Fox Lake, Kathryn Nicole Patnou of Round Lake Park, Andrew J. Patnou of Scottsdale, AZ; a grandson, Anthony Matthew Patnou; her mother, Edith (John) Truitt of Sun City, AZ.; and a sister, Linda Sue (Richard) Oster of Sun City, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her father and step-father.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Justen’s Round Lake Funeral, 222 W. North Rosedale Court, Round Lake, IL 60073.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 24, at St. Joseph Church, 114 N. Lincoln Avenue, Round Lake, IL.
Interment will be in Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery, Cary.
