Sophie Ziemba Kogutowicz, age 79, of Elgin and formerly of McHenry, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
She was born September 17, 1934 in Poland to Walter and Ewa (Wasiel) Kuper.
Before living in Elgin, she was a resident of McHenry for over 40 years. A member of St. Mary’s Church in Elgin, Sophie was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in McHenry.
Survivors include her husband, Zdzislaw; two daughters, Diane (Michael) Broussard and Christine (Gary) Barney; five grandchildren, Eric, Craig, and Adam Barney, and Matthew and Nichole Broussard; two sisters, Wanda (the late Jan) Michnowski, and barbara (the late Michael) Garay; and a brother, Stanley (Linda) Kuper.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, Joseph Ziemba of April 18, 1986.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry.
The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1401 N. Richmond Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, McHenry.
