Bob and Marilyn and Family I am so sorry to hear that you lost Steve after a courageous fight by him-which is no surprise! Having coached him in soccer for several years I can honestly say he was without a doubt the nicest kid I had ever met and probably my favorite. He was the dream of every coach no matter what sport and the ultimate team mate. You must be devastated to have lost a wonderful son but so proud of who he was. Barry has kept me informed of his status since he was diagnosed last summer and I've dreaded the day when I would get the news he gave me last Saturday. I have thought of Steve often through the years because he made such an impact on my life even as a youngster. My heart goes out to all of you and I will keep you and Steve in my thoughts and prayers. Wherever he is now it's a better place!

To the Rick family, Our heartfelt condolences to all of you...our son had the good fortune to be coached by Rick as part of the PR freshman basketball team early in Rick's career (2000 - 2001 year) and is fondly remembered as a great coach to the boys, always upbeat and encouraging to each on his team - and they were a winning team as was Rick! You all will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Rick showed me a passion for teaching that I now carry with me on a daily basis within my own classroom walls. He was my guide into a world of supporting our youth that I was searching for while at PR in his Earth Science class. I became a teacher today because of the influence he had on me. I wanted to give others, what he gave to me. In my own way, I embody Mr. Rick, on a daily basis, for I know that the opportunity he gave me should be shared with everyone. He is my inspiration to help others. I am forever grateful this wisdom he gave me and the mentor that he was for me. He will always be a huge part of person who I am.

To the Rick family, I'd like to offer my deep condolences to you and say that Steve and you all are in my thoughts. Steve was a basketball coach of mine during his and my first years at Prairie Ridge HS. Though we were a successful team on the floor and he was a fun basketball coach to play for, I look back and remember more that he coached us to be better people. Better students, better sons, better brothers, better friends. These are the far more important lessons learned on a high school basketball team, and Steve understood that and coached in that way. I'm grateful to have had him as coach and am a better person for it.

I was privileged to know and work with Steve while he was at Prairie Ridge. I so enjoyed being in his classroom as a Special Education paraprofessional. He was always willing to go the extra mile to help his students succeed and I feel very fortunate to have known him. I have many fond memories. Cindy, I wish that I could be there in person to meet you and offer my condolences but I am out of town. I think of you and your daughters on a daily basis and I will continue to keep you in my heart and wish you peace, comfort and love. My sincerest sympathy is with you.

CIndy and girls. I was fortunate to aid for your dad's classes for earth science and physical science. It was comical because he had never taught physical science. Mrs. Glover was on maternity leave and he had never taught that subject. We had such a great time. He relied on me and so appreciated my professionism. I remember when he found out he was going to be a dad. It was amazing. Steve was amazing and I know he will be the most amazing angel for you. My prayers are for you all. Know that there are so many of us praying for you and the girls. Love you

Rick Family, Mr. Rick was my Earth Science teacher back in 2000 and by far, one of my very favorite teachers. He always liked to remind us that he loved dinosaurs, Coca-Cola, and his students. :) His enthusiasm and authenticity were what made his classroom so welcoming, and it had such a great impact on me. As a high school teacher myself now, it's my goal to try to keep a "Mr. Rick" attitude and classroom environment. It's not an easy thing to do, he set the bar high! What a blessing it was to know Mr. Rick!

Mr. Rick was an amazing educator and coach. Even as a young educator myself, he took the time to reach out to me and help me find a job. He will always be remembered and thought of as an amazing inspiration for others. Rest in peace

Mr. Rick was one of my absolute favorite people during my four years at PR. I will never forget his amazing personality and his endless ability to help others. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome at all times & went out of his way to do so. I will forever cherish the time I spent chatting with him back during high school classes and more recently, about our MLB teams (since they are from the same division). I feel very lucky to have known him & am a better person because I did. He won't ever be forgotten, RIP <3
