Thomas N. Thompson, age 65, of Round Lake Beach, died Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Emeritus at Hoffman Estates.
He was born July 5, 1947 in Waukegan to William and Leona (DesJardines) Thompson. On June 28, 1969 he married Dian C. Weiss at St. Paul Church in Round Lake Park.
Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. He was a Green Beret in the 5 Special Forces from 1967 until 1968.
A lifetime resident of the Round Lake area, Thomas was a Round Lake Firefighter for 30 years retiring in 2007. He received his Bachelor of Fire Science from Southern Illinois University. He as a former member of St. Paul Church in Round Lake and current member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Antioch. He was a self taught electrician and liked to putter. Tom loved family cook-outs and also enjoyed fishing, scuba diving and his annual trips to Canada.
Survivors include his wife Dian of 43 years; three children, Dena (Adam) Krieger of Lake Villa, Thomas G. (Jen) Thompson of Volo, Magan (Eric) Janus of Round Lake Beach; five grandchildren, Maxwell and Samuel Krieger, Thomas N. and Aleah Thompson, Emily Janus; and two sisters, Andrea (the late Jan) Bazeck of Gurnee and Nancy Witwicki of Lake Villa; a sister-in-law, Sandra Thompson of Trevor, WI.; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Scott Thompson.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Justen’s Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 W. North Rosedale Court, (at Cedar Lake Road) Round Lake, IL 60073.
Visitation will continue on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 24300 Grass Lake Road, Antioch, IL 60002, with full fire department honors to follow.
The cremation rite will be accorded privately.
