Victor E. Zmijewski, age 66, of Round Lake Beach, died Monday, August 22, 2011, at Lake Forest Hospital.
He was born January 31, 1945 in Chicago to Anthony and Madelyn (Norman) Zmijewski. On November 13, 1965, he married Carol Bensen at Annunciation Church in Chicago.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Vietnam War.
Formerly of Chicago, Victor was a resident of Round Lake Beach since 1972. A machinist by profession, he was employed by Illinois Tool Works for over 40 years before retiring in 2003.
He was an active and involved member of St. Joseph Church in Round Lake. He enjoyed taking on the task of various projects at the church, especially ones where he was able to use his woodworking skills, but preferred no special recognition for his efforts. In addition to his favorite pastime of woodworking, he also enjoyed traveling to new destinations with his wife.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carol; three children, Richard (Lynn) Zmijewski of Racine, WI; Deborah (Daniel) Caraher of Ingleside, and Jennifer Blanton of Oconomowoc, WI; six grandchildren, Andrew, Sarah, Austin, Casey, Caleb, and Aubrey; and a brother, Robert (Patricia) Zmijewski of Norridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Helen (the late Algis) Skudra.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 26, at Justen’s Round Lake Funeral Home, 222 N. Rosedale Court, Round Lake, IL 60073.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 27, at St. Joseph Church, Round Lake.
Interment will be in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
