Vilma A. York, age 87, of McHenry, died Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Wauconda Heathcare and Rehabilitation Centre.
She was born April 7, 1920 in Los Angeles to Julius and Gertrude (Prosche) Harthun. On October 26, 1944 she married Edwin B. York in El Reno, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on September 11, 2001.
Born in Los Angeles, Vilma’s family moved to Germany when she was six months old, returning to the United State when she was nine years old. She had been a resident of McHenry since 1964.
Vilma graduated from Roosevelt University with a degree in accounting. She was employed as an accountant at Price Waterhouse.
She participated in Meals On Wheels and the Zion Lutheran Church Friendship Guild, and was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church since 1965. Vilma had beautiful handwriting and for years had the honor of writing out the confirmation certificates for the church.
Survivors include three daughters, Edwina (Robert) Jackson of Menlo Park, CA., Felicia (Thomas) Music of Woodland Park, CO., Cassandra (Don) Snetsinger of Lake Zurich; nine grandchildren, Laura Jackson of Buffalo Grove, Heather (John) Yandle of Menlo Park, CA., Aaron , Shad and Branden Twist of Frisco, TX., Chantille Bayer of Buffalo Grove, Sieger Bayer of Lake Zurich, Daniel Hawkinson a U.S. Marine serving in Iraq, Jennifer Hawkinson of Woodland Park, CO.; and three great grandchildren, Jackson, Nicholas and Evelyn Yandle of Manlo Park, CA.; a son-in-law, Herb Twist of Frisco, TX.; and a niece, Karen Kinney.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin of 56 years; a daughter, Andrea Twist ( April 21, 2004); and her parents.
A graveside service will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 in Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery, Cary.
