Virginia was a devoted Christian and member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and co-founder of the school’s Home & School Association. She was an active member and past president of the regional chapter of Women’s Aglow International and attended Magnificat and Life in the Spirit. Virginia was honored to be named Inspirational Woman of the Year. She was a spiritual mentor to many.
As a long-time member of the McHenry Country Club, she was one of the co-founders of the Junior Girls Golf Program, and was instrumental in starting McHenry Women’s Invitational Golf Tournament. Faith & family meant the world to Virginia; she loved unconditionally and was always there to help, listen, provide a meal or a prayer.
Virginia is survived by six children: Gary Spengel, Pam(Marty) Patterson, Kim (Mike) Johnson, Joy (Steve) Rossman, Scott (Diane) Spengel, Keith (Trish) Spengel; daughter-in-law, Linda “Missy” Spengel; sixteen grandchildren, Valya (Robert), Tony, Curtis, Brian (Jessica), Michael, Sarah (Ryan), Andrew, Nicholas, Emilie, Lee (Mandy), Luke, William (Sara), Eric, Stephanie, Ben, Dane; six great-grandchildren, Rose, Grace, Claire, Ellie, Wyatt, Theodore; her brother, Packy Nespeca; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Theodore “Ted”; son, Craig Spengel; daughter-in-law, Lydia Spengel; sister, Rose Zemeckis; and brother, Carmen Nespeca.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. Visitation will resume Monday in the funeral home from 8:45 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at which time we will be leaving in procession for the 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church Street, Johnsburg, IL 60051.
Interment will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
