Walter D. Knapp, 70, of McCullom Lake, died Thursday, January 12, 2006, at the University of Chicago Hospitals.
He was born March 31, 1935 in Bremen, Germany, to Herman and Alma Knapp. On January 25, 1958, he married Katharina Dumenjich in Detroit, Michigan.
A resident of Chicago for 30 years, Walter moved to the McHenry area in 1988 with his wife. He was employed by Metal Removal Tool Co., which was later known as Roger Tool Company, for over 30 years in a number of positions. He was also the union steward at Metal Removal Tool Co..
An avid outdoorsman, he found great enjoyment in tending to his garden and making bird houses.
Survivors include four children, Walter (Annabel) Knapp of Chicago, Werner (Char) Knapp of Harvard, Kathy (Sean) Knapp of McHenry, and Susan (Joachim) Reise of Hoffman Estates; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Shallon) Wally, Jason, Joseph, Alex, Trevor, Jennifer, John, Max; and a great grandson, David.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Katharina, on October 6, 2000; and a brother.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral Mass is celebrated at noon on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at The Church of Holy Apostles, 5211 W. Bull Valley Road, McHenry. Interment will be in St. Patrick Countryside Cemetery, McHenry.
