William A. “Bill” Davidson
McHenry – William A. “Bill” Davidson, age 88, of McHenry, died Saturday, September 1, 2007, at Woodstock Residence in Woodstock.
He was born January 15, 1919 in Chicago to Anderson and Mathilda (Smith) Davidson. On May 22, 1948, he married Betty May Johnson in Chicago.
Bill was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Force. He served three years in Rome, Italy during WWII. Bill loved his country and was a true American Patriot.
He was a resident of the McHenry area for 59 years. He worked for 48 years as a driver/salesman for Anheuser-Busch, Inc. before retiring in 1984. Bill held the record for the longest serving driver/salesman for Anheuser-Busch, Inc., a record which he was very proud. Bill, combined with his father and brother, have over 100 years of employment with Anheuser-Busch, Inc.
Bill was an active member of American Legion Post 491 and VFW Post 4600, both in McHenry. He was a member and former President of the McHenry Lions Club. He was also a member of Teamsters Union 744. He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
Bill loved to travel in his travel trailer, fishing and hunting, gardening, and always loved a good joke while visiting with friends and family. He was happiest when surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and his “Babe.”
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty May; six children, William A. (Susan) Davidson, Jr. of Johnsburg, Sharon McGregor of Cary, Sandra (Mike) Willoughby of Las Vegas, NV, Jan (Jeff) Rocco of McHenry, Scott (Colette) Davidson of Racine, WI, and Donna Mays of McHenry; 15 grandchildren, Kevin, Shawn, and Heather McGregor, Jason (Rocki) Davidson, Kate (Nick) Rodriquez, Billy Davidson, Loren and Keri Willoughby, Steven and Jennifer Hawkins, Megan and Jessica Rocco, Rebecca Davidson, and Hanna and Vaughn Mays; 4 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Nick, Matthew Johnston, and Myia Rodriquez; a sister, LaVerne Becker; a sister-in-law, Marge Davidson; and nieces and nephews, Marilynne, Dottie, Bill, Bob, Sue, Cathy, Debbie, Karen, and Drew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Moeller; a brother, Andy Davidson; two brothers-in-law, Bill Moeller and Bill Becker; and a nephew, David Moeller.
Friends may greet the family from 11:00 a.m. until the 12 p.m. Memorial Service on Saturday, September 22, 2007, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 404 N. Green Street, McHenry, IL 60050. The Rev. Roger Schneider will officiate.
