William R. Reid, age 86, of Wonder Lake, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at his home.
He was born August 11, 1922 in Chicago to David and Margaret (Baird) Reid. On November 16, 1946, he married Jean L. Hayes in Chicago.
A WWII veteran of the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, he served as a military policeman in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Reid resided in Wonder Lake since 2002, and formerly was a 56 year resident of McCullom Lake. He and his wife also wintered in both Phoenix and Westbrook Village in Peoria, Arizona for 20 years.
An electrician by trade, he enjoyed a career with Carey Electric for over 35 years. He also worked as a part time police officer for the Village of McCullom Lake, later becoming the Chief of Police for McCullom Lake.
During his lifetime, he enjoyed the hobby of photography and developing his own photos. He was dearly loved by his family, and will be remembered as a wonderful husband and father.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jean; two children, Joanne (Kurt) Weisenberger of Wonder Lake and Michael (Sharon) Reid of McHenry; four grandchildren, David (Dawn) Reid, Lynette Reid, Jason (Kari) Weisenberger and Amy (Marty) Robb, all of McHenry; eight great grandchildren, James Reid, Grant, Sean, and Derek Robb, Blake, Ashleigh, Skylar, and Hunter Weisenberger.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, David and George Reid.
The visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The visitation will continue on Tuesday, March 17, at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
The funeral blessing will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
