William Thomas “Tom” Barthel, age 76, of Marco Island, Florida, died Monday, December 6, 2010, at Naples Community Hospital in Naples, FL.
He was born April 11, 1934 in Chicago to Curtis Wallace and Anne Dolores (Hartel) Barthel. On October 21, 1961, he married Shirley A. Krzysiek at St. Joseph Church in Homewood.
Formerly of McHenry, he and his wife were residents of Marco Island since 1999. While living in McHenry, he worked in sales & marketing for building development, and also was a real estate broker.
After moving to Florida, he continued his work as a real estate broker. An active member of San Marco Catholic Church, he also served as an usher. He was a Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree member of Council 6344.
He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Shirley; seven children, Paula (Tom) Wagner, Thomas (RaeAnn) Barthel, Christine (Matthew) Mazanec, Diane (Scott) Lukas, Anne (Dennis) Powers, Jeffrey (Sharon) Barthel, and Mary (Christopher) Byrnes; 21 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia Agne and Roseann Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050.
The funeral blessing will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 11, at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be in Marco Island.
