Continue ReadingZelmer “Jim” Turner, age 78, of McHenry, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born November 21, 1938 in Verda, Kentucky to Mayo and Maddie (Rapier) Turner.
Formerly of Crystal Lake, Jim was a resident of McHenry for 47 years. For over 35 years, he was a truck driver for Local 301 of the Teamsters Union. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army.
An avid fisherman, Jim fished locally at the McHenry Dam, and also traveled to Canada where he enjoyed fishing trips. He also loved to play cards, especially pinochle and cribbage. In his younger years, he played softball.
Jim is survived by his five children, Donna (Larry) Kenyon of Park Ridge, New Jersey, Deb (Rich) Steege of Ottawa, Illinois, Diana (Jack ) Winger of Lake Geneva, Ronald Turner of Lake Zurich, and Randy Turner of Rockford; twelve grandchildren, Kenneth, Ashley, Bradley, Michael, Hunter, Catie, Eric, Connor, Alyssa, Troy, AJ, Ian; two great-grandchildren, Leanna and Timmy.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra, on September 14, 2015, and his siblings, Rocky Turner, Elizabeth Lewis, Ben Turner, and Carla Youngblood.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. Visitation will resume Saturday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Cary.
